Your Ultimate Guide to Different Types of Hot Coffees
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

I am sure we have all found ourselves going through the coffee shop menus and finding ourselves baffled because we are not entirely sure about what the exact difference between two coffees is. Visit any Blue Tokai or Starbucks coffee; New Delhi’s favourite coffee shops and unless you’ve done your research you may not know how an iced Americano differs from a cold brew? should you go for a flat white or a latte? How are Arabica beans different from Robusta – what should your perfect cup have? Well, lets us clear some confusion for you here.

So, for all coffee newbies and coffee connoisseurs, here are a few amazing popular hot coffees to discover.

Black

Don’t confuse this with an Americano. A Black coffee is the simplestone to make; steep ground coffee beans in hot water and serve it warm. If you are fancy, you can call this café noir. This coffee is not meant to be doctored up with sugar or milk.

Latte

One of the most popular drinks at any coffee outlet, thelatte consists of steamed milk added to a shot of espresso with a touch of foam. While traditionally this was had plain, these days you can flavour it with a shot of anything from pumpkin spice to vanilla. The famous pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks Coffee, New Delhi is perfect during the winter months.

Cappuccino

For the foam lovers, Cappuccino is your hot coffee. It is essentially a latte that has more foam than the steamed milk and is commonly sprinkled with cinnamon powder or cocoa powder on top.

Americano

Though the flavour is similar to that of black coffee, the americano is a more diluted coffee. It is made by diluting a shot of espresso in hot water.

Espresso

This is the base for most of the coffee drinks, both hot and cold, such as iced Americanos, macchiatos, lattes etc. The real coffee lovers have an espresso shot solo.

Doppio

Make the espresso a double and you have yourself a Doppio. For those sleepy mornings and to kickstart your lazy day, this double shot of espresso, is ideal to get you kicking.

Cortado

A hot coffee that is gaining popularity, the cortado is perfection. It has the perfect balance of warm steamed milk and espresso. The milk cuts back on the acidic nature of the espresso.

Macchiato

An espresso based drink, the macchiato has a tiny amount of foam on top. It’s the perfect medium between a doppio and a cappuccino.

Mocha

A favourite among the chocolate lovers who need their shot of espresso as well. This drink has steamed milk and foam over chocolate espresso and is a lovely drink for the winters.

Flat White

The flat white has its roots in Australia. It is basically a cappuccino without foam. It’s an uncomplicated drink with espresso and steamed milk.

Affogato

This is the perfect desert for many. The affogato is the perfectchance to enjoy an ice cream scoop in a shot of espresso (make that two). Looking for something more decadent, pour this over a brownie. Absolutely divine.

Café au Lait

This is similar to the coffee we grew up drinking. A minimalist coffee drink, this includes a splash of warm milk to coffee.

Next time you visit Starbucks Coffee, New Delhi , or head to Select Citywalk you will know exactly what you want.
